Run-flat tyres: characteristics and stiffness

The fifth nuance: how does sidewall stiffness affect a tyre’s behaviour on the road? In general it does affect it, quite definitely, especially the way the car reacts when entering a corner. And the question here is not whether a stiff sidewall is good or bad. The question is the tuning and construction of the car’s suspension. That is why run-flat tyres can only be used on cars designed for them. The question of a suspension being universal enough (that is, adapting to different sidewall stiffnesses) essentially calls for separate technical solutions and complex electronics on its own. After all, we are no longer talking about some minor few per cent here. And nobody has yet managed to disprove, in practice, the simple truth that the more electronics there are, the higher the odds of a failure.
